The industrial side is familiar: manufacturers, engineering, warehousing, and plant that eventually dies. The trade side is the half that usually goes unserved, because an electrical or plumbing business working across the northern suburbs has no yard big enough for a bin and no time to drive to a yard.
The industrial half
- Manufacturing offcuts, production trim and swarf.
- Warehouse racking, mezzanines and steel strapping.
- Plant, conveyors, tanks and end-of-life machinery.
- Electrical plant, motors, drives and switchboards.
The trade half
- Electrical. Cable offcuts, drum ends, old switchboards. The best paying trade scrap there is.
- Plumbing. Copper pipe, brass fittings, hot water units off every changeover.
- Solar. Aluminium rail offcuts and DC cable, and whole old systems off upgrades.
- Building and renovation. Roofing iron, aluminium window frames, structural offcuts.
- Air conditioning. Condensers and coils through the changeover seasons.

New-build sites
A lot of the activity across the northern growth corridor is new residential. New builds produce less metal than strip-outs, but the metal they do produce is concentrated: offcuts of cable, pipe, roofing and framing accessories. On a multi-lot site a single cage near where the trades park usually catches the lot.
